1966 was a momentous year, heralding in one Eric Sorlin, born in Paris, France. Shortly after his birth, Eric travelled with his mother to West Africa to join her husband and Eric’s father, then working as a geophysicist in Gabon. Starting life as an international traveler wasn’t unexpected for Eric, being that his mother was a French native hailing from Morocco and his father a native
of Lyon, France.
As a teenager now living in Cameroon, his father gifted Eric a film camera for his 10th birthday, the Rollei 35-T. Duly inspired, Eric set aside his slingshot, bow and arrow and began experimenting, taking B&W photos of the African world around him. Parakeet on one shoulder and Rollei camera in hand, Eric ventured forth in his artistic exploration, developing an inimitable style of photography. With this camera Eric brought to life the static images found in nature and eventually, in the city.
Today, Eric resides in the USA as an American citizen and still uses his Rolley 35-T. Mr. Sorlin enjoys photographing images of both urban and rural landscapes, transforming the ordinary with a balance in composition and movement that is inherently evocative and particular to the subject in these
B&W photos.
Eric is making his mark in the world of photography, one still image at a time, conveying a compelling story unique to his one of a kind mind.
